Will Liverpool Bring in a New Goalkeeper?

An injury to Liverpool number 1, Alisson and a 7-2 defeat to Aston Villa before the international break has sparked rumours surrounding a potential incoming for the reds. Alisson was ruled out for 6 weeks after sustaining a shoulder injury leaving Liverpool with Adrian as their only experienced option.

Although the transfer deadline for Premier League teams has passed, they can still sign players from the EFL before October 16th. This has led to Liverpool being linked with goalkeepers from lower leagues who could provide competition for Adrian during Alisson’s absence.

Jack Butland of Stoke City and Brice Samba of Nottingham Forest are two names that have been the subject of speculation in regards to a possible move to Merseyside. Jack Butland who has been heavily linked, could bring a great level of experience to the Liverpool squad with 77 Premier league appearances and 9 senior caps for England. On the other hand, Brice Samba is an interesting option after a solid breakthrough season in 2019/20 where he kept 13 clean sheets in 40 starts for the Midlands side.

Despite reports, Klopp has indicated that he is happy with his current options suggesting that a new goalkeeper for Liverpool is unlikely. With Klopps side travelling to Everton this weekend it is expected that Adrian will retain his spot in-between the sticks. Youngsters Caoimhin Kelleher and Marcelo Pitaluga will be the most likely candidates to serve as cover for the Spaniard.

Head over to the Just Keepers Twitter & Facebook pages to have your say on whether Liverpool should bring in a new goalkeeper before the EFL deadline.

45-year-old Coach Makes Ukraine Matchday Squad

Ukraine were forced to call upon their 45-year-old assistant head coach to step into the squad last night as they faced France in a friendly fixture. Oleksandr Shovkovskiy was named amongst the subs as a backup keeper after 3 of the senior team keepers tested positive for Covid-19.

Shovkovskiy retired back in 2016 at Dynamo Kyiv, boasting an illustrious career with 92 caps for his country. Unfortunately for Oleksandr Shovkovskiy & Ukraine it was a night to forget as France coasted to a 7-1 victory. Although the veteran did not feature in the game, he was deemed to be “in good physical shape” by Ukraine officials.

Check out the full details of the match in the link below!

Below, we take a look at some of the oldest professional goalkeepers to ever step foot on the pitch:

Mondragon became the oldest ever player to appear at the World Cup Finals (43) when he represented Colombia as they took on Japan in the 2014 tournament.

Marco Ballotta

Ballotta broke the record for the oldest player to appear in the UEFA champions league (43) as his side, Lazio were defeated by Real Madrid in 2007.

Andrea Pieroborn

In 2015 Pierobon earned the record of the oldest player to make an appearance in professional Italian Football (46) after a surprise inclusion for his club, Cittadella.

Essam El-Hadary

Essam El-Hadary became the World cups oldest player (47) as he appeared for Egypt in a 2-1 loss to Saudi Arabia in 2018

England vs Wales – Southgate’s Selection Headache

Tomorrow night England face off against Wales for the first time in 4 years in a friendly fixture at Wembley Stadium. The last outing between the two teams saw Daniel Sturridge grab a last gasp winner to seal a 2-1 victory for the three lions at Euro 2016. Manager at the time, Roy Hodgson opted for the experience of Joe Hart whereas Gareth Southgate faces a potential selection headache this time around in the goalkeeper department.

Southgate has often favoured Jordan Pickford following his exceptional performances which helped England to reach the Semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup. Although, with matches coming thick and fast for England in the forthcoming week, squad rotation may provide opportunities for Nick Pope and Dean Henderson.

Whilst Nick Pope only has 2 England caps to his name, he is a regular starter for Burnley in the Premier League and will certainly give Southgate something to ponder. Dean Henderson on the other hand has struggled for game time since moving back to Manchester after his loan spell at Sheffield United. Despite his lack of game time so far this season, his excellent form in the 2019/20 season will undoubtedly be fresh in the mind of the gaffer.

An in form Wales team will serve as a tough test for England as they prepare for UEFA Nations League fixtures against Belgium and Denmark. It will be interesting to see how Southgate lines up for the clash in regard to the goalkeeper position. Head over to the Just Keepers Instagram page below to have your say on who should be number 1.

Everton Sign Goalkeeper Robin Olsen

Robin Olsen

Robin Olsen completes deadline day move to Everton for a season long loan from Roma.

His career started at Swedish club, Bunkeflo in 2009 before he would go on to play for a host of European clubs including PAOK, Roma & Cagliari as well as more successful spells at Malmö FF & F.C. Copenhagen. It was in 2015 when he received his first call up to the national team where he would go on to earn 38 caps to date.

Robin Olsen signed for Roma following a series of impressive displays at the 2018 World Cup where Sweden reached the quarter final of the competition. The experienced Swedish international made 17 appearances last season for Roma, keeping 4 clean sheets and leading the side to a 5th place finish in Serie A. Other achievements include winning two Allsvenskan titles & one Swedish Super Cup for Malmö FF alongside two Danish Superliga titles & two Danish Cups during his time at F.C. Copenhagen.

After a remarkable start to the Premier League campaign, Everton will hope that their new addition will provide competition for current number 1, Jordan Pickford who has been under increased scrutiny due to recent performances.

The award was announced last night during the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League group stage draw in Geneva.

It was a season of highlights, team and individual achievements for Neuer, see the list below of his trophy hall and season stats.

A season to certainly remember for Neuer and it is hard to disagree with German goalkeeping legend Oliver Khan who has high praise for Neuer, he said “Manuel is one of a kind. If you look at everything Manuel has won and how much he has contributed to the team’s titles, you can say he is one of the very best of all time.”

adidas PREDATOR PRO 20 Manuel Neuer

Get the gloves of Manuel Neuer. The design on these adidas soccer gloves references the jersey Manuel Neuer made into his own.

A compressive entry hugs your wrist for a natural fit. Demonskin control elements rise from the backhand for precise punches. The foam palm is both highly grippy and highly sensitive, so we suggest saving this pair for big games only.

PREDATOR DEMONSKIN: Raised control elements distributed across the knuckles provide texture and grip, delivering increased control and power to all punched clearances

URG 2.0: From adidas unrivaled URG series combines great grip and shock absorption in the premium glove segment. We recommend it for all surfaces and in all conditions. Always clean the latex in luke warm water after use.
