Bernd Leno Keeps 5th Consecutive Clean Sheet

Leno

Bernd Leno kept his 5th consecutive clean sheet last night as Arsenal coasted to a 3-0 victory over Newcastle at the Emirates.

This is Arsenals longest run without conceding a goal for over a decade, with the last time this happened being in 2009.

After a rocky start to the season Arsenal have finally began to gain some momentum and Leno has been key to this recent success.

Although the German international had little to do in the match, his previous performances would have no doubt instilled confidence into the Gunners back line.

The 28 year old now has 7 Premier League clean sheets under his belt this season and has conceded just 1 goal in his last 615 minutes of football.

He sits behind only Ederson (9) and former teammate Emiliano Martínez (8) in the golden glove rankings.

Arsenal moved into the top half of the Premier table for the first time in over 2 months with yesterdays victory.

They travel to either Southampton or Shrewsbury this weekend in the FA Cup 4th round where Leno will be hoping to continue his fine form.

Ederson now leads the race for the Golden Glove with 9 clean sheets after yesterdays 4-0 victory at home to Crystal Palace.

This saw him surpass Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martínez who sits in 2nd with 8 clean sheets so far this season.

The Manchester City keeper has only recently came back into the side after being ruled out with COVID-19.

During his absence US international Zack Steffen was called upon, and delivered with some impressive performances.

In this period Manchester City won all 3 of their fixtures whilst keeping 2 clean sheets in the process.

Pep Guardiola showed his confidence in the 25 year old saying that “He can fight for No.1”.

Despite this, Pep wasted no time in putting Ederson back between the sticks following his self isolation.

Since his return he has earned back to back clean sheets as well as lifting The Cityzens into 2nd place in the Premier League table.

Ederson will be hoping to win the Golden Glove award for the second year running, and beat competition from the likes of Emiliano Martínez and Édouard Mendy.

Ederson stuck with the Uhlsport ABSOLUTGRIP HN #301 last night, despite him becoming somewhat notorious in recent times for his varied glove choices.

Zack Steffen continued his 100% record for Manchester City last night as they reached the Carabao Cup final, beating Manchester United 2-0.

This meant that Steffen has now won all 6 games that he has started for the club as well as securing a spot at Wembley.

The US international keeper was relatively untroubled in the match, but was forced into a good save following a Bruno Fernandes effort early on.

He has only recently came into the side amid a Covid crisis at City, leaving Ederson and Scott Carson unavailable for selection.

Steffen is currently the only senior keeper available, with 18 year old James Trafford even making the bench for yesterdays clash.

After signing from Columbus in 2019, he is now the eight American goalkeeper to start a Premier League game.

The 25 year old has played every game in the Carabao Cup this season and will be hoping to continue City’s good record in the competition.

Manchester City will face Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley Stadium in the final at a rearranged date of April the 25th.

Steffen was donning the Nike Vapor Grip PROMO as The Citizens came out on top in the Manchester derby.

Fraser Forster Set For Premier League Return

Fraser Forster

Fraser Forster is set to make his first Premier League appearance since 2019 in tonight’s fixture against Liverpool.

This comes after news broke that Southampton number one, Alex McCarthy had tested positive for Covid-19.

McCarthy had been in good form, keeping 7 clean sheets so far this season including 3 in his last 5 games.

His absence will undoubtedly be a blow for The Saints, although it was confirmed that he was the only player in the squad to test positive.

Ralph Hasenhüttl has hinted at Forster’s return saying “I think Fraser is a very good alternative…He really wants to play now and was waiting for his chance.”

This will be Forster’s first Premier League appearance since May 2019, where he suffered a 3-0 loss at the hands of West Ham.

The 32 year old spent last season on loan at former club Celtic where he made 28 league appearances.

It was ultimately a successful loan spell, with Neil Lennon’s side winning their 51st Scottish League title.

Southampton have enjoyed a good start to the campaign and currently lie 9th in the league table.

Fraser Forster has also kept a clean sheet in four of his last five matches against Liverpool, which could give the keeper some confidence on his return.
