Allan McGregor Breaks Rangers European Record

Allan McGregor broke the Rangers record for the most appearances in European competitions last night in the Europa League.

Last nights fixture saw the Scotsman make his 83rd European appearance for The Gers, overtaking former player Barry Ferguson on 82.

A Scott Arfield goal in the 63rd minute made it an even more memorable occasion for McGregor, securing a 3-2 victory against Belgian side Standard Liège.

This result guaranteed his sides place in the Europa league knockout stages with 1 game remaining.

McGregor made his first European appearance 14 years ago in a 2006 UEFA Cup match against Molde over 2 legs.

He kept a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw in the first leg before defeating the Norwegian side 2-0 in his second European outing.

At 38 years of age, the Rangers keeper is still going strong, playing every game so far in Europe and making 6 appearances in the Scottish Premiership.

Steven Gerrard was full of praise for his keeper saying that “He’s a super professional.” and that “He deserves this accolade”.

Rangers are currently cruising at the top of the Premiership, 11 points ahead of rivals, Celtic.

They travel to Ross County this weekend, where McGregor and his teammates will be hoping to extend this gap even further.
